With the late-in-the-week addition of a performance by “American Idol” contestant Madison VanDenburg, Altamont Fair organizers concluded another successful Fair Week in spite of poor weather.

Asked by The Enterprise how much Sherwood has forfeited to date, Assistant United States Attorney Michael Barnett said that that information is not public and that it is also not knowable at this point, since many of Sherwood’s forfeited assets are bank and brokerage accounts, whose value can fluctuate. Barnett added, “I can say it does not equate to what was stolen.”

“There are no other gates like that on town roads,” said Guilderland Highway Superintendent Gregory Wier. 

Francis Melfe, who is 91 and living in Schenectady, resigned from the priesthood in 1979, according to the spokeswoman for the diocese. He petitioned the Vatican to be “dispensed” from the clerical state — “laicized,” so that he would no longer be a priest — and this was done in 2012, she said. He is now married, but not to the woman whom a recent suit alleges bore his child.

Jupin was “granted voluntary leave of absence from ministry” in May 2003 by then-Bishop Howard Hubbard amid allegations of sexual abuse, said diocesan spokeswoman Mary DeTurris Poust, adding that she believes the allegations claimed he had abused two teenagers in Schenectady in the 1970s. Jupin, she said, was later reinstated, following an investigation.

Anna “Ann” Jeannette (née Pawlus) Dancause Bunk — who loved her family and friends unconditionally, her son said — died on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at home while in her sleep. She was 87.

Born in Albany on Nov. 28, 1931, she lived in Lake Helen, Florida.
