ALTAMONT — On Wednesday night, after a packed hearing with more than 100 villagers, the Altamont Village Board voted, 3 to 2, to rezone the two-family home at 107-109 Helderberg Ave. from residential to commercial so that the adjacent Stewart’s Shop will be able to expand.

The New Scotland Planning Board will hold a special meeting on Dec. 12, to determine the fate of the first proposed solar farm in town.

Westerlo’s solar law could be amended to change the nature of how decommissioning bonds are determined in the midst of solar applications being approved over again in order to include a new type of energy-storage system.

Enterprise Consulting Services is once again looking to install a cell tower in Altamont. In 2013, the company had the same proposal for the same for the same site, on Agawam Lane.

A 92-unit apartment complex intended for senior citizens, at Route 20 and Mill Hill Court, broke ground on Nov. 1. The Guilderland Industrial Development Agency has granted the $21 million project $650,000 in sales and mortgage-recording tax breaks.

NEW SCOTLAND — A process that began over a decade ago, paused, and recommenced in May 2017, came to a quiet conclusion on Wednesday night as the town board unanimously approved an update to New Scotland’s comprehensive plan.

New Scotland first adopted a comprehensive plan in 1960 and updated it 35 years later in 1995.

An application submitted recently to the town would bring 283 apartments and 80,5000 square feet of commercial space to the wooded land near the Guilderland YMCA.

There is no easy or immediate answer to the question of what to do with rundown properties like the Rustic Barn or the former gas station near Crossgates — both on Route 20 in Guilderland.

GUILDERLAND — On Fletcher Road in Westmere — an older area of town where most houses were built after World War II when households typically had one car and driveways are not as long as they are in some newer parts of town — many residents have made L-shaped additions onto their driveways, to park more cars off the road.

GUILDERLAND CENTER — Over the objections of about 10 residents who called the density too great for a rural-agricultural zone, the town’s planning board granted concept approval last month to Black Creek Estates, a conservation subdivision that will build a maximum of 20 houses between Hurst Road and Route 146.
