Mark Stephen Torok traveled the world, visiting six continents for work or for fun, but was always grounded by his family.

“He was a very caring person,” said his mother, Margaret Nicholson Torok.

Mr. Torok died at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016. He was 59.

KNOX — Esther Jane Lane was drawn to medicine, working as a hospital transcriptionist until the age of 82. Growing up in the Depression, she was frugal and modest, caring for her family and others.

She died peacefully at home on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016. She was 89.

 

BERNE — Jane E. Herzog-Mangini, a native of Berne, died on Friday, June 17, 2016, in Summerfield, Florida.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1929 in Berne to Stephen and Esther (née Wright) Komjathy.

BERNE — A man of common sense and uncommon sensitivity, Patrick Lounsbury Sr. was able to fix things.

“If he could touch it, he could fix it,” said his wife, Helen Lounsbury.

SCHENECTADY — Bruce Fenstamacher, in his 75 years, often changed jobs and homes, but he had one constant in his life — he took care of stray cats.

“He loved stray cats,” said his daughter, Jennifer Snyder. “He always took them in. He had two currently.”

NEW SCOTLAND — Virginia Becker, a grandmother who liked to crochet, cook, and party, died peacefully at her New Scotland home on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016. She was 81.

She was born on April 16, 1935 in Albany, the daughter of Elmer and Martha (née Tallman) Van Alstyne.

ALTAMONT — Ross J. Herzog “entered into eternal rest,” his family wrote, on Friday, Aug. 26, 2016. He was 30.

ALTAMONT — A Guilderland Republican who served as town attorney for two dozen years, Frank J. Williams Jr. died on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at St. Peter's Community Hospice Inn. He was 94.

GUILDERLAND — “I don’t think there are any gentler men than him,” said Linda M. Conklin Wolcott about her husband, Corporal Robert Lawrence Wolcott, who died on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016. He was 56.

After a 32-year career with the State Police, Gary Robert Van Allen left what he called the rat race for retirement to the summer house on Helderberg Lake that he had so much enjoyed when he was growing up.

He died unexpectedly on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016. He was 72.
