WESTERLO — Alvin H. Latham, who was active in many facets of his community’s life, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016. He was 83.

GUILDERLAND — Betty Marie Cropsey, a mother of five and grandmother of eight, was a champion speed skater and dedicated church volunteer. She died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, with her family at her side. She was 90.

NEW SCOTLAND — A man of principle and passion, Peter Henner worked for causes he believed in with the same logic and commitment he used when playing chess. He tackled his legal work as he tackled mountains on climbs with his wife — with a sense of adventure.

BERNE — This community lost a man important to its economy, its communal life, and its history when Paul Frank Giebitz died on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016 as the result of a tractor accident. He was 89.

ALTAMONT —  Penny Ann Wall, a loving mother who extended her care outside her family, too,  died on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. She was 50.

“She was a very outgoing person, a top-notch person,” said her husband, Kenneth A. Wall Jr.

A former boiler attendant from Plattsburgh, John C. Egan would go on to work in high-ranking positions for both his state and local government, making strides in public service.

One word describes Marjorie Carol Ogsbury Hilton: “That word is love,” says her husband.

GUILDERLAND — Louise Sanderson — widely known as “Ma” — “was one of the most fun-loving people you could be around, but didn’t take any guff from anybody,” said her son, Richard Sanderson.

She died on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at the age of 92.

BERNE — William Davis last saw his 90-year-old father, John I. “Jack” Davis,  when his father made one last trip from his home in  Pennsylvania to the annual July 4 family get-together in East Berne.

His father died on Friday, Aug.  19, 2016, at Heritage Valley Hospital in Beaver, Pennsylvania.
