Guilderville girls swimming

Last Thursday through Saturday, the Guilderville girls’ swim team competed in the Section 2, Division 1 swim and dive championships at Shenendehowa Aquatic Center.

On Friday, Sept. 22, the Guilderville girls’ swim team hosted the combined team of Schenectady/Colonie at Clayton A. Bouton high school. It all came down to the last event where Guilderville pulled out a 73-71 win.

This past weekend, Thursday Nov. 3 to Nov. 5, the Guilderville and Helderberg Valley girls swim teams took to the pool in hopes to qualify for Nov. 17-18 NYSPHSAA championships at Webster High School, just outside Rochester. Helderberg Valley’s Maura O’Donnell will compete in two events.

On Tuesday, Sept. 13, the Guilderland-Voorheesville girls swim team hosted Ballston Spa at Clayton A. Bouton High School. Guilderville pulled away late to beat the Scotties, 104 to 82.

On the weekend of Nov. 19 and 20, Guilderville’s Brooke Sommo competed in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls’ swimming and diving championships at Ithaca College in Ithaca.

The Section 2 girls swimming sectionals took place at the Aquatic Center at Shenendehowa High School for a three-day event. Guilderland-Voorheesville finished seventh with 105 points in Division 1 and Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Duanesburg won its first ever sectional title with 343 points.

On Thursday, Sept. 30, the Guilderland-Voorheesville girls team swam against Bethlehem at home. The talented Bethlehem swimmers led from start to finish to beat young Guilderville 110.5-to-75.5. The Geese are led by new head coach and former Guilderville alum Sarah Webber.

On Friday and Saturday, the Guilderville girls swimming team, made up of Guilderland-Voorheesville students, swam at Shenendehowa High School for the Suburban Council Championships. The team finished 5th overall with 216 points.

Last Thursday the Guilderland-Voorheesville girls swim team had a virtual swim meet against Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. The geese fell 99-to-84.

Guilderland-Voorheesville girls swim team under the helm of Jenna Hyary have started the shorten season 4-0 with all their meets virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Guilderville won both meets, 118-47 against Troy-Averill Park, and 102-81 against Schenectady-Colonie.
