Guilderland High School

The Guilderville boys looked to show their swimming abilities against Shenendehowa High School on Friday afternoon in hopes of qualifying for states. The team is made up of athletes from Guilderland and Voorheesville and competed at home, in the Voorheesville pool.

On Saturday morning, the Guilderland gymnasts took on Bethlehem, showing the judges their grace and flexibility as the Dutch performed on the balance beam, vault, floor, uneven bars. The Dutch fell in a very close meet, 157.2 to 149.7.

Track teams from Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Guilderland, and Voorheesville, traveled to Springfield College in Massachusetts on Sunday to take part in the third annual Ed Cepiel Springfield Invite against 25 other teams.

The Storm lived up to its name in a physical game on Friday, shutting out the Mohawks, 2 to 0, in the first Stick it to Cancer game at Union College. Each team is comprised of players from a number of high schools.

On Saturday,  wrestlers from Guilderland and Berne-Knox-Westerlo hit the mat in Matmania at Glens Falls High School. The Dutchmen finished in third place with a score of 100 points and the Bulldogs finished in 13th with 30 points.

The Flying Dutchman had a haunted start to the basketball season as both the boys’ and girls’ teams lost this week in their first games.

The Guilderland and Berne-Knox-Westerlo bowling teams hit the lanes at Town ’n’ Country in Guilderland this week to start their 2019-20 season.

On Monday afternoon, five Guilderland athletes signed the college letter of intent to move onto the next level of their career.

Swimmers focused on qualifying for states as they competed on Nov. 7 through Nov. 9 at Shenendehowa. Guilderville, made up of Guilderland and Voorheesville swimmers, finished with 132 points and Helderberg Valley, made up of Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Duanesburg swimmers, finished with 295 points. A relay team and two individual swimmers from Guilderville will compete at states as will Abigael O’Donnell from Helderberg Valley.

Tickets for the Guilderland Players’ fall play, “Arsenic and Old Lace” written by Joseph Kesselring, are $5 and are available at the door. The play is directed by high school teacher Andy Maycock, with Johnna Kollar as student director. The play runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Nov.
