Guilderland High School

On Saturday, Feb. 5, the Guilderland varsity competitive cheerleading team took to the mat for the Bethlehem Bash at Bethlehem High School. This year, the team is competing in the large division, composed of all girls, instead of usually being in the coed division.

On Saturday, Feb. 5, the jumpers and runners of the Guilderland Indoor Track competed to earn spots on the Section 2 team to compete on March 5 for the state competition. Then on Monday, postponed from last Thursday due to weather, the throwers competed.

On Sunday morning, Feb. 6, the Guilderland Dutchmen wrestling squad competed in the Class A sectional championships at Shaker High School in Latham. The nine wrestlers battled for a ticket to the state competition at the MVP Arena in Albany.

There was a slight breeze on Tuesday, Feb. 1, as the Guilderland Nordic team took to the Ski Bowl course at Gore Mountain. The girls finished in fourth with 46 points and the boys in eighth with 99 points.

This past weekend, starting on Jan.27 thru Jan.30, Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo indoor track teams took to the track in an attempt to bring home Section 2 titles.

On Friday, Jan. 28, the Guilderland Dutchmen gymnastics team participated in the Purple Passion fundraiser event along with Saratoga, Bethlehem and Shaker. Guilderland performed well even though team scores weren’t scored.

Last Thursday, Jan. 20, the Guilderland girls basketball team traveled up the Northway to play against the Scotties at Ballston Spa High School. Guilderland’s offense couldn’t get a basket until the fourth quarter, where the Dutch pulled away to win, 53 to 41.

The Storm hockey faced off against the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Ballston Spa hockey team at the Schenectady County Recreational Facility on Jan. 15 . Storm hockey is made up of students from Guilderland, Mohonasen, Scotia Glenville, Schalmont, and Voorheesville.

The Guilderland and Berne-Knox-Westerlo indoor track teams traveled on Jan. 8 for the Ed Cepiel Springfield Invitational at Springfield College. The invitational hosted 26 teams, only two were outside Section 2.

The Guilderville boys swim team faced off Saratoga at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. It was a back and forth match but the Guilderville team held on to a 90-to-86 win on Jan. 4.
