On Saturday, Jan. 7, the Guilderland wrestling team took part in the Jamie Mormile Invitational at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Out of the twelve, five of them finished in the top five with three winning championships.

Guilderland’s Myles White tries to bend the shoulders of Jack Miglucci, competing for Christian Brothers Academy, in the second period in the 132-pound match. White won the match, 14 to 3, then went on to win the weight class.

Bringing the pain: Guilderland’s Daniel Ralston battles Onteora’s Brenon Thiel in the 138-pound match as Ralston attempts to pin Theil. Ralston won 5-0 then went on to finish third overall.

Planning it out: Guilderland’s Abdo Baraeya looks to make a move on Maple Hill’s Max Rulison in the first period. Baraeya won by pin in 5:11 in the 145-pound match.

Fighting hard: Guilderland’s Danny Gibney tries to fight to stay off his back as Taconic Mass’ Noah Poirer uses his upper body to pin Gibney in 28 seconds in the 160-pound weight class.

Making quick work: Guilderland’s Dillon O’Brien wraps his arms around Onteora’s Alex Cobey in an attempt to put Cobey on his back. O’Brien won by pin in 48 seconds in the 172-pound weight class and finished third overall.

Strong base: Guilderland’s Jack Hall looks at Taconic Mass’ Jake Hall trying to take him down to the mat in the first period in the 189-pound match. Hall won 10-8 in overtime.

Flat on his back: Guilderland’s Billy Pokeda lays on top to put Maple Hills’ Gerald Stalker shoulders on the mat as the referee takes a closer look in the 285-pound match. Pokeda won by pin at 4:35.

Dominating: Guilderland’s Vincent Morizio bends the left arm of Ravena-Coeyman-Selkirk’s Jaymie Carkner in an attempt to flip him to his back in the second period in the 285-pound match. Morizio won by pin at 3:21 and then went on to win the weight class.

Down and out: Guilderland’s Antonio Cipollo got Taconic Mass’ Maliki Lytle onto his back quickly to pin him in 35 seconds in the 215-pound match. Cipollo went on to win the weight class.
