The historic runs for the Guilderland football team, going for the school’s first sectional championship, and the field-hockey team, looking for its first-ever regional championship, fell short this past week.
ALBANY COUNTY — Flag football in Bethlehem and track and field in Voorheesville have been added this summer to the county’s free Amateur Athletic Union sports program.
One bad bounce or a different play could have led Guilderland’s field hockey and football teams to the next round in their Class AA sectional games. The field hockey team played well against Shenendehowa last Thursday in a tight game that needed extra time to be resolved.
Guilderland preserved its stellar record this season, largely with a strong defense against Bethlehem in the Class AA sectional quarter final. The Dutch won, 12 to 7.
The Berne-Knox-Westerlo School voted to support sharing a football team with Duanesburg, knowing that board had voted down the plan, 4 to 3. The BKW superintendent urged football supporters to attend Duanesburg's next board meeting.
Unless Duanesburg, Schoharie, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo have budgets passed with money allocated for football, the Schoburg team may not exist next fall, said BKW's Interim Superintendent Joe Natale.
