The defense for Guilderland, made sure Schenectady didn’t accumulate much on offense; Patrick Ghyll, foreground, tackles Schenectady’s Maurice Tillman in the backfield. Guilderland’s defense held Schenectady scoreless in Guilderland’s 60-to-0 win on Sept. 4. Ghyll also scored a rushing touchdown in the game.

Schenectady lost the first football game of the season for both teams, with Guilderland taking 60 points to none.

This year, the Suburban Council has an urban component as four teams from the now-defunct Big 10 league have joined — Schenectady, Troy, Albany, and Christian Brothers Academy.

Guilderland Quarterback Geroge Marinopoulos had 10 completions on 12 attempts for 184 yards throwing including 60 yards on a catch and throw to Spiro Sokaris. Sokaris led the team in receiving with 73 yards on two catches.

Guilderland varsity football players hit the ground running, as members of the team burst through a banner that said, “Let’s go Big Red” last Friday night as the Dutchmen played Schenectady at home.

Leaving their defenders in the dust, Jared Schwartz and Tom Majkut, below, both scored on their respective rushes. Schwartz scored from thirty yards out, while teammate Majkut scored twice for the Dutchman. Majkut’s touchdowns were from four and 49 yards out. The Dutchmen on offense totaled 497 yards — 313 yards rushing and 184 receiving. The Enterprise — Michael Koff
