elections 2019

In Voorheesville, tax increases and a three-way race for one school-board seat are on the ballot come May 21.

The current wait for a hold on an e-book is 39-and-a-half days, compared to a week for a print book.

The goal of the renovation, Director Timothy Wiles said, is to give the library enough space to meet current demand. He anticipates that the improvements would serve for another quarter-century.

GUILDERLAND — After many years without a contested race, this May 21st, five candidates are vying for three seats on the Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees. Two are incumbents — Barbara Fraterrigo and Barry Nelson — and three are newcomers: Catherine Barber, Mark Keeling, and Philip Metzger.

Incumbent Matthew Tedeschi, who is currently the board’s president, is seeking another three-year term. Helen Lounsbury has decided not to run again. The other three candidates — Robin Becker, Mackenzie Hempstead, and Rebecca Miller — are making their first run for school board.

Jeff Perlee

Jeff Perlee, a Republican, and Fran Porter, a Democrat, are neighbors who live in the sliver of Guilderland between Altamont and Knox on Route 156. They are both running to represent the 31st District in the Albany County Legislature, which covers rural western Guilderland; the northeast corner of Berne; and about two-thirds of Knox, on its eastern side.

At last week’s school board meeting, Superintendent Timothy Mundell said that bids were over the project budget’s target of $15.8 million.

This May, voters residing in the Voorheesville Central School District will decide on a $25.4 million school budget for next year.

Voorheesville Trustees Richard Straut and Sarita Winchell were unopposed for their seats in this month’s village election. Just 74 of 2,010 registered voters turned out on Tuesday, March 19.

Running on the Altamont First line, Nicholas Fahrenkopf was the top vote-getter with 210. His running mate, Michelle Ganance, garnered  193 votes. Fahrenkopf had been on the board since 2015; Ganance was appointed just this past year. They ran on their records.
