On Saturday, Apr. 2, the Voorheesville baseball team opened their season at Watervliet on a sunny cold day. The Birds used a big sixth inning to pull away and beat the Cannoneers 17-4.

Last Thursday, May 27, the Voorheesville baseball team hosted the Sabres of Schalmont at home. The Sabres’ bats and patience at the plate helped them take advantage of the Birds’ mistakes and opened up an 11 to 1 lead. The Birds attempted a comeback but fell 11 to 5.

The diamond was cold and windy last Thursday when the Voorheesville Blackbirds played a non-league game against Mohonasen at home. The Birds kept it close for four innings, being tied 1 to 1, but the Warriors flexed their muscles and downed the young Birds, 9 to 1.

With games postponed due to pesky snow, the Voorheesville Blackbirds and Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs were eager to start this season.

The run for a title for the Voorheesville Blackbirds ended Saturday afternoon in the Class B sectional semifinal in Johnstown. The Blackbirds lost to Albany Academy, 5 to 0, without one hit. It was a perfect game for the Cadets; the ball never left the infield.

Sectional playoffs have begun and the Colonial Council Patriot Division champions, the Voorheesville Blackbirds, started the journey towards winning another sectional championship on Tuesday afternoon at home against Catskill.
