With games postponed due to pesky snow, the Voorheesville Blackbirds and Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs were eager to start this season.

The Blackbirds’ second game, on Saturday at Watervliet, was a blowout. Voorheesville beat Watervliet, 17 to 1. The bats came alive through the slight cold breeze and the pitching was dominant. Carter Romansky, at left, releases a pitch toward the plate during the bottom of the first inning. Romansky pitched four innings, allowing just one hit and run while striking out seven batters and walking three.

Diving to make a play: Voorheesville's Jacob Rychcik attempts to go for a ball in the first inning. Rychcik went four for five at the plate, batted in three runs, scored twice, and stole a base.

Swing batta swing! Alex Hoenig swings at a pitch; he went one for three and had two RBIs. Hoenig finished the game on the mound, pitching three innings, striking out six and walking two.

Staring down the pitch: Voorheesville’s Colby Hoffman had a perfect day at the plate, swinging the bat last Saturday at Watervliet. Hoffman went four for four, scoring two runs and stealing a base.

Dominant day: Voorheesville’s Carter Romansky releases the baseball toward home plate during the Blackbirds’ second game of the season at Watervliet last Saturday. Romansky went four innings, allowing one hit, one run while striking out seven hitters, and three walks. The Blackbirds won the game, 17 to 1.

The Bulldogs kicked off the season at Duanesburg on Monday. The game started with a bang as Caiden Larsen on the second pitch, sent a long ball to right field, sailing over the ballpark fence. Larsen went two for three, had one run and two RBIs.

Cheering a hero: Spring is finally here, and so is baseball. In Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s first game of the season, Michael Flower smacked a solo homerun and is cheered by his teammates after he rounded the bases. He went two for three, scored one run, and had two RBIs.
