GUILDERLAND CENTER — Helderberg Reformed Church, which has had five buildings and two locations, is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its founding. Longtime members recall when the church was the heart of Guilderland Center.

“It’s the 100th anniversary of World War I, and I figured there’s no sense having it hidden away.” 

BERNE — While far from being the oldest community theater group around  — that honor is claimed by the Footlight Club in the Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain (1877) — the Hilltowns Players have been a source of fun, entertainment, creative outlet, and instruction in theater arts for more than three decades now.

NEW SCOTLAND — Arthur and Betty Hamilton of New Scotland celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Dec. 21 of this year.

The couple met through family members and fell in love. After serving in the Navy in World War II, Mr. Hamilton married his sweetheart in Binghamton, New York in 1946.

ALTAMONT — John and Kristin Smith celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 3, 2016.  On Aug. 27, they had a wonderful celebration with family and friends at Northway Bible Chapel, including many friends from Bellevue Gospel Chapel.

High school sweethearts, Roy Jones and Charlotte Crawford, daughter of Clyde and Millie, graduated together and were married on August 3, 1951 in the Reidsville Methodist Church by Rev. Russell Greene of St. Pauls Lutheran now Helderberg Lutheran. 

ALTAMONT — Paul Tymchyn and Virginia Quay Tymchyn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 10.

High school sweethearts and lifelong residents of Altamont, Ginny and Paul Tymchyn have two children: Ronelle Tymchyn, who is married to Ken Berlin, and Greg Tymchyn and his wife, Kelly.

Herb Frauenberger, a retired New York Police officer now living in Guilderland, was on the scene when the Beatle was shot.

Luther and Solveig Snyder were married on Oct. 1, 1950. They were high school sweethearts, graduating from Altamont High School in 1948.

They were married at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Guilderland Center on Oct. 1, 1950.

Women wore jewelry and corsages as they viewed scrapbooks at the 50th anniversary celebration of the New Salem Department Auxiliary last Saturday.
