ALBANY COUNTY — William J. Conboy II, the longtime Albany County attorney who died in January, will be honored in a ceremony Monday when the county legislature’s chambers are dedicated in his name.

The Regional Foodbank of Northeastern New York Inc. of Albany has received $4.7 million as one of 45 food relief organization statewide that got a total of $36.5 million.

The draft of a shared-services plan for Albany County includes a recommendation to consolidate the town of Berne’s highway department with the county’s Department of Public Works.

NEW SCOTLAND — The Albany County Recreation Department will host a free baseball summer camp that will provide kids a way to learn the game or improve their skills.

The camp is open to all county youth ages 7 to 13, and all equipment except for baseball gloves will be provided.

At a town board meeting, Rensselaerville residents and town board members discussed the upcoming county-wide shared-services plan due Aug. 1. Much of the meeting involved questions without answers.

In Berne, the Albany County executive announced that the town’s senior center would become a weekly satellite office for various county services. Meanwhile the county sheriff’s office is one step closer to obtaining the Clarksville Elementary School building, which the sheriff has had the same vision for.

ALBANY COUNTY — Like counties across the state, the Bethlehem Central School District is also quickly approaching a deadline.

With counties across New York State working to submit a plan to save money through shared municipal services by Aug. 1, some town governments have been trying to keep up —  wary of consolidation, anxious to save taxpayers money, or simply reeling from the fast pace.

BERNE — A 9-year-old Berne-Knox-Westerlo student has placed third in the annual Child Abuse Prevention Posters Contest.

The student, Sadie Poole, had drawn herself and her family to demonstrate the love a family has. The poster includes herself, her brother and sister, her parents, her dog Max, and her cat Pumpkin.
