Clarifying the meaning of World War II memorial in Berne

To The Editor:

This letter is a clarification to a letter from Joyce Schreiber in part regarding the World War II Memorial in the Berne Town Park.

This memorial was a replica of the board made by the people of Berne during the war. This is why the only names you see are the ones of soldiers who served from the town at that time. This board was funded by the Berne Historical Society and built as an Eagle Scout project.

The Berne Town Board was in no way connected with this except giving us permission to put it in the town park.

This past summer, the society along with help from the town put up a flag and plaque honoring all resident veterans past and present.

I hope this letter finally clarifies the meaning of this memorial.

Linda Carman, secretary
Berne Historical Society
