Enforcing town policies is never a way to make friends

To the Editor:

I am writing to you concerning your remarks about Tim Lippert. [The May 15, 2014 editorial, “Minding multiple roles is a public servant’s duty,” is online at www.AltamontEnterprise.com.]

When I lived in Albany County, I did business, got to know Mr. Lippert quite well, and found him to be an outstanding person. He is now in a public position whose duties involve enforcement of town policies.  This is never a way to make friends!

Some years ago, I lived in Orange County where I served as a village trustee for 30 years and as mayor for two years.  I know full well how difficult it is to do the job and try to please everyone.

Regarding the abutting property, as long as it is advertised and open to public bidding, Mr. Lippert has a right to place his bid.

Once this has happened, life will go on and the difficult job of building inspector for the town to enforce its rules and regulations will also go on.
