Weather Service issues winter storm watch

Albany County is colored blue because it is under a winter storm watch. The surrounding areas are colored in yellow, indicating a hazardous weather outlook.

ALBANY COUNTY — A winter storm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for the southeast Catskills, the mid-Hudson Valley, and the Capital Region, including Albany County.

The storm watch is in effect from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning. Heavy snow is possible with accumulation of 7 inches or more.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the Weather Service says. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.”

Arctic air will overspread the region Monday through Wednesday, the Weather Service says with wind chill or “feels like” temperatures falling as low as 10 to 25 degrees below zero during the overnight hours mainly for the higher elevations.

If this potential increases, the Weather Service says, then cold weather advisories may be needed
