Guilderland Elementary moves to remote learning, as more test positive for COVID-19

GUILDERLAND — Guilderland schools have two more cases of COVID-19, according to an email Superintendent Marie Wiles sent Saturday evening to families in the district.

One of the new cases is at Farnsworth Middle School, which will continue with in-person classes. The other is at Guilderland Elementary School, which will move to remote-only learning.

Saturday’s notice follows on the heels of an email Wiles wrote Friday evening about a second case at Lynnwood Elementary School.

This makes a total of 18 confirmed cases for the district so far this school year.

“GES Principal Allan Lockwood is working with the Albany County Department of Health to assist with contact tracing and to determine who will need to quarantine as a result,” Wiles wrote. “Unfortunately, this case has created a staffing shortage for that building, and because of this, students in the GES building (grades K-4) are transitioning to all-remote learning starting Monday, Nov. 30. In-person classes for K-4 GES students will resume on Wednesday, Dec. 9.”

About the case at Farnsworth, Wiles wrote, “At this time, it appears that one classroom has been affected, and all of those individuals have been contacted. FMS will reopen for in-person instruction as planned on Monday, November, 30.”
