COVID-19 cases at VCSD require no shutdown

NEW SCOTLAND — A week after announcing its second and third positive COVID-19 cases, the Voorheesville Central School District announced this week it had learned of its fourth and fifth positive COVID-19 cases of the year: a student at Clayton A. Bouton High School, on Nov. 16, and a member of the Voorheesville Middle School community, on Nov. 18.

This high school case is not connected to the cases announced last week, “as far as we know,” the district said in a letter to parents. Nothing was said about the middle-school community member and a connection to the other cases. 

The second and third positive cases, according to the COVID-19 Report Card maintained by the New York State Department of Health, were two students — one from Voorheesville Elementary and the other from Clayton A. Bouton High School; the cases were not connected.

The first positive test was from a middle-schooler in September..

The district said “based on the timing of when” the two newly diagnosed persons were “last at school, the Albany County Department of Health has indicated no need for further action, on behalf of the school, to have school community members quarantine.” 

The district also noted that all schools will continue to remain open for in-person instruction.
