School board’s stance was a farce

To the Editor:

I want to thank Mr. Jordan J. Michael for the great article in The Enterprise on Oct. 2, [“Chain of command broken: Who decides the fate of high school coaches?”] and also the editor for the editorial on the second page [“The public should be heard, not herded” — both online at Altamont Enterprise.com].

They were both right to the point! Everything that took place at the board meeting when many people spoke was a farce. The board could have let the people know why Coach [Andrew] Wright was let go but they hid behind their own policy of not speaking of personnel matters.

As far as the statement of Ms. Joan Adriance [president of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Board of Education] of Garrett Pitcher playing when he was "exhausted": I attended most every game Garrett played and never once did I see him not playing as a team member and he kept himself in good shape, always working out.

Not sure what games Ms. Adriance went to but I don't remember seeing her there but think she listened to the wrong people like [interim superintendent] Mr. Lonnie Palmer, who is no longer there.

They had an athletic director in Coach Tom Galvin but didn't have the courtesy to speak to him about Coach Wright.

Thank you, Enterprise.
