These local students were among 104 honored for outstanding academic achievement at the Honors Convocation held recently on the Saint Rose campus:

Manar Alohaly of Guilderland received the Graduate Honors in Computer Information Systems Award. Alohaly is a graduate student at Saint Rose;

Tears and cheers, handshakes and hugs were all part of the ceremony on April 24 where Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy recognized outstanding volunteers for their community work.

Good works abroad — distributing toys to kids in Costa Rica or spending a day at an orphanage in South Africa — were some of the acts lauded in a YMCA awards ceremony for local high school students.

NEW SCOTLAND —John Boyd Thacher State Park will get $3.8 million for its new visitors’ center, the governor’s office announced on Tuesday. The Helderberg park is to receive almost half of $8.7 million allocated to Capital Region parks.
