VOORHEESVILLE — Voorheesville residents continued to enjoy the same quality of life as always, but paid a little bit more for it: 2014 marked the first time that the village exceeded the state-mandated 2-percent levy cap on property taxes, raising them 5 percent.

FEURA BUSH — A Feura Bush resident, Rodolfo Rios, 52, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to first-degree attempted robbery in Albany County Supreme Court, only a year after being released from state prison for armed robbery.

NEW SCOTLAND  — The town is soliciting résumés for openings on the planning and the zoning boards; due to term-limits enacted in 2011, board members can serve only two five-year terms.

The town judge treated them like human beings, say elderly Stannard sisters who have a sense of freedom now that charges stemming from their housing too many stray cats have been adjourned.

NEW SCOTLAND — A decision about a solar vendor for municipal energy is expected in the next few weeks, and the proposed town water-well law is still on tap, according to town board members.

A master plan for New Scotland's Swift Road and Feura Bush parks has some features that could be accomplished with the work of town employees and volunteers; other features would require grant funding.

The Winterfest celebration Indian Ladder Farms last Saturday included visits with Santa and live holiday music. The celebration continues this Saturday, Dec. 13. 

Song and solemnity mixed at the annual tree-lighting in Voorheesville's Evergreen Park, put on by the Helderview Garden Club, as Mayor Robert Conway lit the Christmas tree and Robert DeFelice, pastor of the Voorheesville Methodist Church, said a prayer.

Town leaders disagree over a proposed water-well law, with some contending that it would harm farmers and long-time residents, and others citing an obligation to provide safe water to taxpayers.

Diners enjoyed an early meal of steaming Thanksgiving standards at the American Legion post in Voorheesville on Nov. 23.
