NEW SCOTLAND — The town Republican Party, which put up no candidates in the last election cycle, announced last week a recovered slate of candidates seeking office this November at both the town and the county levels. But the party has no candidate for town supervisor.

Republican Party Chairman Tim Stanton will face Democratic incumbent L. Michael Mackey in District 38, and Andrew Holland will take on the Democratic Primary winner of the race between incumbent Herbert Reilly and his challenger, William Reinhardt, in District 33.

Families and friends jammed into Voorheesville's performing arts center to celebrate the district's graduates.

“I’m interested in video-editing, and 3-D modeling and animation,” Valedictorian Erik Patak said. “I was learning off YouTube, one of the best educational resources.”

John Bennett Mackay learned last month that he had edged out his friends for the honor at a school he enjoyed attending.

The Buffalo Business First newspaper found that only 3.7 percent of the children in the Voorheesville district live below the federally designated poverty line.

Clarksville Community Church started a gofundme site to raise $20,000 to pay for a boiler to replace one original to the 50-year-old building.

A headhunter wooed Dr. Thomas Reardon from Voorheesville Elementary to the superintendent position at Wynantskill Union Free School District in Rensselaer County. Reardon will begin his new duties in July.

The Renaissance Festival, in its second year at Indian Ladder Farms in New Scotland, attracted 1,246 visitors on Saturday with more expected the next day, according to organizer Dan Bader.
