This scribe jumped out of bed at 5 a.m. on Nov. 11 and found it was Tuesday, and time to round up whoever was going with him to the breakfast.

To the Editor:

Paul Centi, the proprietor of Township Tavern in Knox, installed an 8-by-8-foot quilt square on the side of his building last week.  A photo of the tavern from the 1880s inspired the illustration painted in the center of the wooden square.

Absentee ballots were opened on Wednesday morning to decide the winner of the close race for highway superintendent in Berne, where Democrats outnumber Republicans by nearly 3 to 1. The Republican won by 26 votes. "The fat lady has sung," said the Democratic Party chairman.

Deborah Busch, who represents a portion of the Hilltowns, said the experience demonstrated to her government failure, and malice and changed her views on the death penalty.

To the Editor:

We are very busy working on our Thanksgiving and Christmas programs. We are still in need of donations for Thanksgiving dinner for our families.

Donations of food or monetary donations are always appreciated.

EAST BERNE — Robert Miller loved his family and his faithful companions, golden retreivers Sable and Zeva.

Mr. Miller died at his home on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014. He was 75.

He was born in Albany on Aug. 13, 1939, to the late Ethan and Emma (née Remley) Miller.

Democrats, who outnumber Republicans in Berne nearly 3 to 1, will need to surmount 17 votes held by the Republican Randy Bashwinger as absentee ballots are counted for the election of a new highway superintendent.

The position was decided several months ago when Bates, a Democrat and deputy sheriff, was endorsed by all four parties. Sitting Judge Timothy Miller, a Democrat, didn’t run for another term.

The town tax rate is set to decrease for the second year in a row while the spending plan raises salaries and wages for employees and officials.

RENSSELAERVILLE — A set of three short stories will be brought to life, narrated by three New York City actors in the historic Conkling Hall at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Sweet cakes, pies, and other treats made by community members will be proffered with coffee at the performance, titled “Shorts and Sweets.”
