These local students have recently distinguished themselves:

Mark Guido of Slingerlands, interned with the State University of New York College at Potsdam First Year Success Seminar in Potsdam, for the Fall 2014 semester;

<p>When I spoke on the phone to our daughter Elizabeth her voice sounded like she was out of breath. As a typical mother, I was concerned and asked if she was OK. With a slight laugh in her voice she replied that she was fine.

These local students have been named to the Marist College dean's list for the fall 2014 semester:

James Crowley of Slingerlands, a member of the Class of 2018, majoring in computer science;

GUILDERLAND CENTER — Donna LaGrange, a woman known for always having a smile on her face, died on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at her home. She was 50.

Ms. LaGrange was born in Cobleskill on Oct. 28, 1964, the daughter of James “Butch” and Gloria LaGrange.

She graduated from Guilderland High School in 1984.

SLINGERLANDS — Mark T. Bryant of Bryant Asset Management in Slingerlands, gathered with a group of financial advisors invited to participate in Commonwealth Financial Network’s Chairman’s Retreat, in January at the Mandarin Oriental in Miami, Florida.

The Chairman’s Retreat is Commonwealth’s highest level of recognition.

A long time ago, I went to a tool show at the New Scotland Armory. At the time, I didn't have much of a workshop but I always liked tools so I went to just look around.

Five of us were driving to a meeting when Pat swerved wildly to avoid hitting an animal that was crossing the road. As we all readjusted ourselves, we collectively (and individually) berated her for endangering us all.

On Monday, Feb. 2, we woke up to 16-inches of snow that fell overnight. BKW was closed and my daughter, Marcia Pangburn, dropped her daughter, Kyra Swan, off at my house before going to work.

GUILDERLAND — Boniface Church at 5148 Western Ave. in Guilderland is observing Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.

A Shrove Tuesday service and pancake dinner will be held on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.

An Ash Wednesday Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes will be on Feb. 18 at 7 a.m., 12:05 p.m., and 7 p.m.
