NEW SCOTLAND — The Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy will host several events on Sunday, including an afternoon-long Summer Festival at Indian Ladder Farms and a series of “Hike-A-Thons” at a variety of locations in Altamont and New Scotland.

ALTAMONT — Paul Tymchyn and Virginia Quay Tymchyn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 10.

High school sweethearts and lifelong residents of Altamont, Ginny and Paul Tymchyn have two children: Ronelle Tymchyn, who is married to Ken Berlin, and Greg Tymchyn and his wife, Kelly.

A courageous woman stood up in Guilderland Town Court on June 30.  She had been beaten by her live-in boyfriend, William Beer.

GUILDERLAND — The town is set to receive $1.1 million in federal funds through the state’s Department of Transportation to do highway safety improvement along Carman Road.

GUILDERLAND — William Beer, 42, will serve no jail time for assault. He was sentenced in Guilderland Town Court on June 30 for a conviction handed down by a jury three months ago.

His lawyer, Madalyn R. DeThomasis, said this week that a notice of appeal has been filed.

There are some encouraging signs that the health-care system is finally embracing the kinds of at-home care that can focus on the patient’s needs and keep the individual out of the hospital.

GUILDERLAND — The school board here has new leaders, elected in split votes on July 5 at its annual reorganizational meeting.

In sports, players and coaches often talk about senior leadership.  The seniors of BKW, Voorheesville, and Guilderland helped their sports teams thrive in 2016 and are moving on after graduation.

It was a good showing for the Guilderland Dutchmen, Voorheesville Blackbirds, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs during the spring sports season.

GUILDERLAND — More than two years after the Guilderland School District, faced with declining enrollment, sought ways to contend with empty classrooms, the school board Tuesday agreed to a contract with Victory Child Care.
