Guilderland students score well on National Merit tests

GUILDERLAND — Three Guilderland High School seniors recently received letters of commendation for their outstanding performance on the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Emily Maercklein, Sagar Kumar, and Eddy Yu are among a field of 34,000 students nationwide who are being recognized for their test results.

In September, Hannah Lloyd, Ian T. Pradhan, and Sharif Mateen were named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Lloyd, Mateen, and Pradhan join about 16,000 high school seniors in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.

About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
