Last Wednesday, Jan. 18, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo bowling team took on the Fonda-Fultonville Braves at Town n’ Country lanes in Guilderland. The Bulldogs split between the girls and boys teams: the girls won 4 to 0 (1896 to 1716 in total pins), while the boys lost 4 to 0 (2655 to 2342).

In the last game of the seventh annual holiday tournament on Tuesday evening, Dec. 27, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo boys’ basketball team took on Cairo-Durham in the semifinals. Both teams traded leads late before the Mustangs took the Bulldogs to overtime. The Bulldogs won, 69 to 64.

On Tuesday evening, Dec. 27, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo girls’ team held a seventh annual holiday tournament at home. BKW took on Loudonville Christian in the semifinals. From the opening tip to the final buzzer, the Bulldogs won, 73 to 12.

On Sunday morning, Dec. 4, Berne-Knox-Westerlo took to the track at Union College in Schenectady to compete in the first meet of their season. Even though there were no scoring points awarded, the young Bulldogs showed off their skills in track and field events.

WESTERLO — Joseph E. Rogers Jr., a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who had worked as an operating engineer, died on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022. He was 83.

On Monday afternoon, Nov. 28, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs bowling team took on Canajoharie at Town N’ Country lanes in Guilderland. The boys lost, 4 to 0 (1754-2658), and the girls fell, 3 to 1 (1991-2017), in their first match of the year.

This past weekend, Nov. 18 and 19, Helderberg Valley’s Maura O’Donnell competed in the NYSPHSAA meet held at Webster Aquatic Center in Webster. O’Donnell competed in the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.

WESTERLO — Ruth A. Snyder, of Goodfellow Road in Westerlo and formerly of Gallupville, was a wife and mother with a successful banking career who loved to travel. She died peacefully Monday morning, Nov. 7, 2022, at the Glendale Nursing Home in Scotia. She was 87.

On Tuesday, Oct. 11, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo cross-country team took on the Duanesburg Eagles and Schoharie Indians in a tri-meet at Schoharie High School. The boys’ side only had one runner, but he was injured. The girls’ team had two athletes and ran well.

On Friday, Oct. 7, the Helderberg Valley, composed of Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Duanesburg students, battled the Corinth-Fort Edward-Hadley Luzerne football team at Corinth High School. HV led from the start and never looked back by winning, 42 to 6.
