The New York Capital District Christian Women's Connection is sponsoring a Let’s Have a Bake Sale luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at the Guilderland Elks Lodge, 3867 Rte. 146 (Carman Road) in Schenectady, NY 12303 beginning at 11:25 am and ending at approximately 1:30 pm. Reservations are necessary no later than December 7, and cancellations a must.  Please call Nancy at (518) 869-0642 to reserve.  On the menu this month is a Virginia Baked Ham Dinner.  The cost is $16.00 inclusive (cash only please).

On Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7 pm, Conkling Hall (8 Methodist Hill Rd, Rensselaerville, NY 12147) hosts Greg Oliver Bodine in “A Christmas Carol,” a one-man, stage adaptation of Charles Dickens classic holiday tale. It is staged with minimal set and lighting effects and lasts approximately one hour.  Suitable for adults and for children (ages 8 and up). Perfect for the holiday season! Directed by Shana Solomon. $15 for adults, $10 for students and Free for children under 10.

The Grafton Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will host a snowmobile safety course for young people ages 10 to 18. Students must be at least 10 years old on the day of the course. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate. The course will be held at the Grafton VFW/Fire Hall on South Road from 8:15 am to approximately 5 pm. The course will be taught by NYS certified volunteer instructor Jim Blessing.

“Red Scare on Main Street!” - Dr. Gerald Zahavi, Professor of History at the University at Albany, will discuss how the 1918-1920 “Red Scare” affected upstate communities including the Capital District as State and Federal authorities reacted to ant-war activists during World War I and labor radicals in the immediate post-war period. Sponsored by the New Scotland Historical Association, this program will be presented at 7:30 p.m. at the Wyman Osterhout Community Center, 7 Old New Salem Rd., Voorheesville (New Salem) 12186. Program is free and open to the public.

This year our talented team explores the theme “Over the River and Through the Woods” in their Christmas decorations.
