Hilltowns Senior News for Friday, March 20, 2015

Our March 14 meeting was held at the White Church on the Hill, the Berne Reform Church. Sixty-six of us enjoyed a corned beef and cabbage dinner with all the trimmings.

It was delicious as always and we thank you so much for your hospitality.  It was mentioned that all the seniors were in the kitchen, so maybe we should treat them sometime.

The Sunshine Committee reported that Fran Brezenski had taken a tumble, but she was back with us on March 14. Also, Millie Rossman is home with pneumonia. We wish her a speedy recovery. We extend our sympathy to the family of Jerry Miller who passed away while spending the winter months in Florida. He and his wife, Bert, are members and he was also the son-in-law of Frances Miller.

Birthday greetings were sung to Fran Brezenski, Bob Porter, Scott Wright, Elsie Wilms, Ed Wood, and Don McDermott. Happy Anniversary to Fred and Elsie Wilms and Peg and Ernie Crawford.

Elsie reminded us that membership dues are "due" at the April meeting and to bring your patience. You are going to be asked to fill out new information cards. Dues are $5 with great benefits.

The anniversary committee reported that our dinner will be held at the Maple Inn at the Lake. This will be held the first Sunday in June. More information to follow.

Trips ahead

Shirley Slingerland reported on upcoming trips. Thursday, April 16, we are headed to the Vermont Country Store. The cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Lunch will be on your own at the Bryant House.

On Wednesday, May 20, we are going to the JFK Library and Museum and Quincy Market. The cost of that trip is $40 for members and $50 for non-members.

Also, on June 23, we are going on a Hudson River Sightseeing Cruise aboard the River Rose, an authentic stern-driven Mississippi paddle wheeler. This trip is $40 for members and $45 for non-members.

Sounds good so far, doesn't it? Call Shirley at 797-3467 for more information and reservations.

Bless our churches

A lot of events are being held at our local churches. On March 28, the Lutheran Church in Berne is having a breakfast. Rock Road Chapel has a breakfast Wednesday mornings. We sure do not have a reason to go hungry.

Also, remember that the Lutheran Church has a thrift store that is open Wednesday and Saturday mornings.  Rock Road Chapel has a food pantry that is open Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

Bless all our churches and members that help us so much in our daily life. Whenever a need arises, they are there to help us. If you or you know of someone that needs something big or small don't be afraid to give them a call. Your journeys are the same as ours.

Join us

Also, don’t forget to join us for fellowship at the Berne Senior Center the second Saturday of the month. You might even get a free bag of potato chips!

Comment for the month:  I'm going to retire and live off my savings. What I'll do the second day, I have no idea.
