The Helderberg Senior Services lunch program re-opens on Tuesday, June 1. This program is for seniors aged 60 and older.

Going into every season, no matter the sport, each team looks to its senior players for leadership. The Class of 2019 did not disappoint as he athletes led their teams into sectional play or even into state competition.

Town Planner Kenneth Kovalchik wants to encourage the development of senior independent-living facilities along Western Avenue, where residents could walk to doctors’ offices, coffee shops, and bus stops.

The building’s management company says the seniors were allowed to use the property’s clubhouse for classes and activities as a kindness while the senior center was being repaired, and that too many people had crowded into the elevator.

Susan Kidder retired as New Scotland’s Senior Outreach Liaison in December, replaced in the position by Debbie Engel.

In New York State, only one in 44 cases of elder financial abuse are ever reported. Local police were instructed Monday on ways to ferret out elder financial abuse.

“We women never touch a flake of snow,” said Joan Sherwood. “The guys here are amazing. They come over and knock on the door and say, ‘Keys?’ We hand over our keys, and they go down and scrape off our cars, and move them so the snowplows can get through.”

On the brink of approval, a developer for senior housing is backing out, concerned over the cost of pollution cleanup.
