Tea and Book Talk

 On Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. join us for Afternoon Tea & Book Discussion to discuss "The Great Alone" by Kristin Hannah." Join our book club for a spirited discussion and enjoy tea and treats while we talk. For a copy of the book please order online through your library account or call 518-827-5142 and we will request a copy for you. No registration required.

Good Night’s Sleep

On Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. join us for Sound Asleep: Herbal Remedies for a Good Night’s Sleep (Online).  Join Nora Toomey, Clinical Herbalist of True Bloom, for this deep dive into plants and holistic practices that can improve sleep! You will learn the foundations of a healthy sleep cycle, why sleep is so important for your overall health, as well as a handful of sleepy-time plants and recipes that can help you get a good night's rest! Each participant will receive a sleepy time tea blend which you may pick up from the library before or after the class.  Registration is required.

Puzzle Day

Jan. 29 is National Puzzle Day.  Did you know that the library has puzzles for you to check out or to work on here in the library? Celebrate National Puzzle Day by checking out a puzzle from the library on Jan. 29 and all of February. Take home a puzzle and be entered into our drawing to win a brand new 1000 piece puzzle from White Mountain puzzles. The winner will be drawn Monday Feb. 28.

Discovery of a Masterpiece

On Mar. 14 at 7 p.m. join us online forThe Discovery of a Masterpiece. Registration required, begins Feb 14.

Mallory Mortillaro serves as the Curator of Collections for the Hartley Dodge Foundation in Madison, NJ.  While she was cataloging the artwork housed inside of the Hartley Dodge Memorial she uncovered a masterpiece that had been lost to the art world since the 1930’s.  After a year of research the piece was authenticated as an official work by Auguste Rodin. Mallory will share the story of how a simple art cataloging project evolved into a search for a mysterious piece’s provenance, and became one of the biggest art finds in recent history! Mallory holds a BA and MAT, both from Drew University. She balances her work as an Art Historian with teaching 7th grade English. She lives in Whippany, New Jersey with her husband. Homeschool Mystery Box

    On Jan. 24 at 1:30 p.m. each homeschooled learner will receive a monthly mystery box that they can decorate and make their own. Each 4th Monday of the month from January to June, their box will be filled with projects, activities, and/or crafts. Once they are finished they will return the box to the library to be filled with the next month's activity! Registration is required and a commitment of all 6 boxes is needed. If you have any questions please email Rebecca at   The boxes are appropriate for learners ages 8 and up. Younger learners may need assistance from an adult or older sibling.

Discovery Wednesdays

 On Jan. 26 at 11:30 a.m. our STEAM program The Human Body - Discovery Wednesdays are back! This in person, once a month STEAM program is perfect for older preschoolers and home schooled children ages 4 through 6. We'll focus on either science, technology, engineering, the arts or math in each program as we work through activity stations based around our monthly topic.  This month we'll focus on science and the human body and how it works. Registration is required and space is limited. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Masks are required in the library at this time.

Crafts Around the World

   On Jan. 27 at 4 p.m. join us for  Crafts Around the World with Sally Ziegler: Worry Dolls (Online). Worry dolls are a tradition from Guatemala, and now people enjoy them all around the world! Learn about the legend of worry dolls, and make one for yourself in this fun virtual program with local artist Sally Ziegler. Your worry doll kits are free and may be picked up at the Middleburgh Library beginning Jan. 17. For children of all ages although younger children will need adult help.  Go to our web calendar page to register. This project is made possible with funds from the Community Arts Grants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered in Schoharie County by CREATE Council on the Arts.

Book Discussion

On Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. we will discuss "Squeeze Me" by Carl Hiaasen. A hilarious novel of social and political intrigue, set against the glittering backdrop of Florida's gold coast. Book Discussion

On Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. "A Girl Is A Body Of Water" by Jennier Makunbi will be discussed.  International award–winning author Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi’s novel is a sweeping and powerful portrait of a young girl and her family: who they are, what history has taken from them, and―most importantly―how they find their way back to each other.

Miracle at the Museum

On Dec. 10 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. join us in Middleburgh for Miracle on Main Street!

The Dr. Best Museum & Middleburgh Library are announcing our "Tree" Decorating Contest.  Pick up your tree from the library during regular library hours, decorate it with anything your imagination can think of, and return it to the library by Dec. 8. All trees will be displayed inside the Carriage House during Miracle. Age categories: 5 and under, 6-9, 10-12.  Prizes will be announced soon.

Warm apple crisp and hot cocoa will be served (by donation). You'll be able to vote for your favorite tree.

Miracle on Main Street

On Dec. 10 the library will be open.  We do not have any programs this year, but stop in and see our Annual Basket Raffle and take a chance.
