One bill would, among other things, require public bodies to make all documents to be discussed in an open meeting available at least 24 hours in advance of that meeting, while another would prevent agencies from charging a fee for certain Freedom of Information Law requests.

John Sweeney said that he believes there’s “an opportunity for a negotiated settlement” between the town, Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, and the three Berne residents he represents.

Leo Vane Jr. is a retired airline pilot, who says that his “biggest concern is for the residents of the town.”

Berne Supervisor Sean Lyons said that the assessor’s office made a clerical error and “only collected for the maintenance and operation fees” instead of the full levy.

A renewable-energy draft is just one aspect of a larger comprehensive plan that will eventually be reviewed by the Westerlo Town Board, which will vote to accept it or send it back to the drawing board.

The project will be built using funds provided by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

The disapproval relates to a new regulation passed by the county legislature that requires the county planning board to consider the Helderberg viewshed when reviewing projects, though County Legislator William Reinhardt, who helped develop the regulation, says it may not apply in this case.
