DELMAR — Helene Marcia (née Markowitz) Freiberg, who was passionate about her work in women’s health, died on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025 after a brief battle with breast cancer.

She was born on May 12, 1947 to Sadie (née Leder) Markowitz and Sydell Markowitz in Brooklyn, New York.

GUILDERLAND — Sylvia A. Mosall, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025. She was 81.

She was born in Whitehall, New York, the 11th child of the late Henry and Carrie Weber.

Marian C. (née Rochon) Hickey, who grew up in Guilderland and went on to have a long medical career in Seattle, died on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. She was 87.

Beryl N. Grant, longtime Altamont village clerk, “was a true matriarch with her love to us all,” her family said.

She died on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, at the age of 95.

ALTAMONT — Frederick Harold Winsor died in the comfort of his home with his family at his side on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. He was 87.

Born July 3, 1937, in Bainbridge, Chenango County, New York, he was the third son of the late Harold and Ida Weir Winsor of Guilford, New York.

KNOX — Richard A. Tubbs, a longtime resident of Knox, died in his home on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025. He was 83.

Born in May of 1941, he was the son of the late Fred and Bertha Norman Tubbs. He was the husband of Carol Miltner Tubbs.

Wanda Louise Gridley Hazen

Wanda Louise Gridley Hazen, the mother of six who worked a variety of jobs, died on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025 while in the loving care of her only daughter, Betsy, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was 88.

She was born on Aug. 6, 1936, the daughter of Albert Gridley and Alice Dingman Gridley.

ALTAMONT — “After an extended battle with various undiagnosed ailments, ‘The Man with Nine Lives’ went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025,” the family of Louis John Meagley Sr. wrote in a tribute. He was 87.
