Marian C. Hickey

Marian C. (née Rochon) Hickey, who grew up in Guilderland and went on to have a long medical career in Seattle, died on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. She was 87.

The daughter of the late Walter and Agnes Rochon, she grew up in Guilderland and attended the two-room schoolhouse on Willow Street, which is now the New York State Police office. She then went to Altamont High School.

“She was a graduate of the first class of Guilderland Central High School in 1955,” her sister Ruth Schaible wrote in a tribute. “She was active in many of the school activities. Then on to Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts, graduating in the medical field. After graduation, she worked for St Peters Hospital in Albany.

“Marian moved to the Pacific Northwest where she had a long career, lasting over 30 years, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

“She married Charles Hickey with whom she shared many years, traveling locally; enjoying music, opera, and symphony, and all sporting events in the area. She was an avid 30-year season ticket holder, supporting the University of Washington Huskies football team.”

She is survived by her son, Curtis Karch; by her sister, Ruth Schaible; and by several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Charles Hickey, died before her, as did her parents, Walter and Agnes Rochon, longtime residents of Guilderland; her brother, Thomas Rochon; and her sisters, Jennie Wahl and Agnes McRedmond.
