Norma ‘Nana’ Holt

ALTAMONT — Norma “Nana” Holt Holt died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, with her loving children by her side.

“Norma’s strength, kind heart, and love for her family are a testament to a life well lived,” her family wrote in an obituary.

Genevieve Riley, daughter of the late Clara Mann, and beloved wife of the late John J. Riley, to whom she was married for 71 years, died on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024.

Born in 1926, she grew up in Berne, where she lived with her Aunt Lena and Uncle Jesse Sholtes. She graduated from Berne-Knox Central High School in 1946.

James Patrick Southard, a school business administrator, of Baldwinsville in Onondaga County died on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, after complications from a brief illness. He was 51.

ALTAMONT — Joan Wemple Burns was a lifelong learner who excelled in her nursing career while instilling a love of nature and family traditions in her three children.

She died on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, at the age of 89.

Miriam K. Flower

Miriam K. Flower, beloved mother and grandmother, “passed peacefully to heaven at Mountain Valley Hospice on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024,” her daughter wrote in a tribute. She was 101 years old.

“Everybody loved her,” her daughter, Cindy Flower-Dymes, said. “She was a social butterfly.”

KNOX — Gregory B. Kirchner of Knox, a family man who was easy to like, died peacefully in his sleep in Bainbridge, New York on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024. He was 76.

Born in 1948 in Liberty, New York, he was the son of the late Fred and Helen Kochan Kirchner and the beloved husband of Charlene Meeson Kirchner.

BERNE — Robert Jesse Chrysler Jr., who liked outdoor activities and tinkering around his home, died on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, in his Berne home surrounded by his family after losing a battle with cancer.

ALTAMONT — “Martin F. Strnad Jr. was called home by the Lord on October 1, 2024,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He was at his home in Altamont, surrounded by his loving family.” He was 83.

Martin was born on Oct. 16, 1940 in Albany to Adele and Martin F. Strnad Sr.

EAST BERNE — Marianne Peckham Kelly, a lifelong resident of Schoharie and Albany counties, died on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024, at her East Berne home, less than three months shy of her 90th birthday, following a stroke four days earlier.
