Municipalities in New York State have been successfully sued after passing laws similar to Berne’s proposed ATV law — which would open up several town roads to use by ATVs and other recreational vehicles — because they failed to prove that public roads provide critical access to ATV trails and did not properly conduct an environmental review.

A new widow had never driven. She had no license. She did, however, have her husband’s car. But, without a driver’s license, she couldn’t register the car to park it on the street.

A neighbor said, “Hey, if you title it to me, I can register it in my name and I can then park it.”

GUILDERLAND — A man has been charged with predatory sexual assault against a child and four counts of first-degree sexual abuse.

Andrew R. Gibson, the Westerlo resident who pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide following a drunk-driving crash that killed Berne resident Lisa Sperry in 2021, is hoping to reduce his sentence by convincing the court that his prior felony convictions are invalid.

The solar energy company’s initial plans for a 4.4 megawatt solar farm in Knox failed in 2021 after a remote-meeting snafu in which a planning board member dropped out just before she was to cast the deciding vote. The Voorheesville Central School District, for the second year in a row, is not projecting a budget shortfall for the following year, which is unusual in a first-draft spending proposal. 

Guilderland school district residents vote at the elementary school that serves their area. For the May 2022 budget vote, those in the Altamont area had the highest turnout at just 26 percent of eligible voters, followed by Pine Bush at 20 percent, Lynnwood at 19 percent, Guilderland at 17 percent, and Westmere at 14 percent.

The Altamont Zoning Board of Appeals at its Jan. 24 meeting touched on issues related to first-responder access, on-site water, and general site access.
