Democratic State Senator Neil D. Breslin will return to office next year, this time in the 46th Senate District, which was transformed through this year’s redistricting process. Breslin, who currently represents the 44th Senate District, beat Conservative Richard M. Amedure Jr. to replace Democrat Michelle Hinchey, who won re-election in another district that includes her hometown in Ulster County. 

With all but one election district reporting, Phillip G. Steck defeated Alexandra M. Velella 30,337 to 23,120, or 55.42 percent to 42.23 percent.

Assemblyman Christopher Tague, a Republican, was challenged unsuccessfully for his seat by Democrat Nicholas S. Chase, a young teacher who was making his first run for office.

“The policy will also give us a level playing field so the hospital knows that you can’t just hold us hostage,”said Jay Tyler, director of the Guilderland Emergency Medical Services. “We’re not your staff. We have to get EMS crews back into the town and back into the cities to answer 911 calls.”

NEW SCOTLAND — A 12-year-old boy, a seventh-grader at Voorheesville Middle School, was charged at school with a misdemeanor for “a threat involving a weapon made against other students,” according to a release from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

Phillip G. Steck, the incumbent Democrat, and Alexandra M. Velella, his GOP rival, are facing off in a newly-drawn state Assembly area that now contains 10 Guilderland Election Districts, which are bounded by the town of Rotterdam to the north, Willow Street and the Albany Pine Preserve to the south, Colonie to the east, and Route 20 to the west.
