Aaron Carr, a junior at Berne-Knox-Westerlo, has been awarded a $1,000 grant to build his hardscaping business.

Hardscaping is landscape architecture, building, for example, walls or paths as part of a landscape.

Altamont celebrated the season on Sunday with a light-decorating contest; Christmas trees in Orsini park trimmed by community groups; a Pet Pawrade; a living Nativity, and finally, after dark, a parade where Santa rode through the village on a fire truck. The COVID-safe event, hosted by Altamont Community Tradition, was held entirely outdoors on brisk but sunny day.

Altamont Community Tradition held a series of festive events in the village Sunday, where The Altamont Enterprise took family portraits including pets.

Indian Ladder Farms in New Scotland was honored on Wednesday with a New York State Senate Empire Award “for its outstanding contribution to the local agritourism industry and service to Albany County,” according to State Senator Michelle Hinchey.

Frederick-Mynderse House was the site of the Guilderland Garden Club’s Holiday Wreath and Craft Sale.

The parade was named in honor of the late Peter Becker, a former fire chief, who died last year in a Berne Highway Department accident.

The 40 Christmas trees behind the Knox town Hall will be lit each evening through Jan. 8.

A resource fair for veterans, active duty service members, and their families will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Helderberg Post 977 in Altamont.
