Vaccines arrive

Of the county nursing home’s 170 residents, 150 so far have agreed to get COVID-19 vaccinations. Only half of the home’s 200 workers have agreed.

The day after she accepted the Democrats’ backing for town clerk in 1999, Diane Deschenes went into the office and told the deputy clerk, a Republican, and a friend of hers, that she planned to run against her. 

“Right now, this variant in the UK is getting on a plane and flying to JFK …. How many times in life do you have to make the same mistake before you learn?” asked Governor AndrewCuomo.

Melissa Fleischut posited that, since the governor had announced that 74 percent of COVID-19 cases were contracted through “living-room spread,” that is, people having small gatherings in their homes, restaurants would be safer places for gatherings.

Jennifer Dorsey ordained as priest

Jennifer H. Dorsey, now known as Mother Jen, was ordained as a priest on Sunday by William H. Love, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany, at St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Guilderland.

On Saturday, governor Andrew Cuomo sent a letter to President Donald Trump, calling on him to use his influence and force Congress to ensure the next COVID-19 stimulus package includes financial relief for American families, states and localities. He also asked Trump to forge a compromise on corporate liability limitations.

GUILDERLAND — New cases of COVID-19 were announced in two separate emails by Guilderland school leaders on Friday evening.

Superintendent Marie Wiles wrote that the district had learned of five cases either late on Thursday or on Friday.

“Our clinical advisory task force approved Moderna this morning,” said Governor Andrew Cuomo at Friday’s press conference. New York expects to receive about 346,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine next week, pending final FDA authorization, Cuomo said. This is in addition to the 170,000 from Pfizer, which can now be stretched further.

Albany County records were broken Thursday for new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

The issues Guilderland and Pyramid are appealing, according to the court filing, “are whether the court below erred in annulling the Town of Guilderland Planning Board’s site plan approval and SEQRA findings and whether the court below improperly replaced the Board’s discretionary determinations with its own judgments.”

ALBANY COUNTY — As about two feet of snow fell in Albany County overnight, local officials put out a flurry of emergency notices. Poor visibility from the fast-falling flakes made it tough to clear roads, the county executive said.

Berne Councilman Joel Willsey sent an email addressed to Supervisor Sean Lyons and Deputy Supervisor Dennis Palow requesting that they resign from their positions; Willsey believes they deliberately attempted to mislead the public about this year’s town government appointments.

On Monday, the same day the first shots were given, Governor Andrew Cuomo did not discount an entire shutdown of the state if numbers don’t improve. “If we do not change the trajectory, we could very well be headed to shutdown,” he said.

Albany County’s health commissioner, Elizabeth Whalen, reiterated that residents, while they wait to hear from health-department staff, can consult the department’s website for guidance on isolation if they have tested positive for COVID-19 and on quarantine if they have been exposed to someone with the disease.

The Edmund Niles Huyck Preserve secured $44,075 in grant money while the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy secured $33,710.
