The Voorheesville Blackbirds track and field team traveled to Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk to compete in the Colonial Council Championships last Thursday.

Intensity ramps up during sectional play. The Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs and Guilderland Dutchmen measured up in their first sectional games this week.

For 14 years, the Guilderland girls’ lacrosse team had reached the Class A sectional finals. But on Monday afternoon, at home, the Dutch witnessed a buzzsaw in Bethlehem that led from the opening whistle to the final buzzer and the Dutch, seeded second, lost, 14 to 3.

The Guilderland Unified Basketball team showed its dominance last Thursday at home against Tamarac. The teams combine boys and girls, and regular-education students along with special-education students.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds softball team traveled to Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk for a Colonial Council matchup on Monday. The Blackbirds had a rough time at the plate and lost, 11 to 1.

The Guilderland girls’ track-and-field team won the 53rd annual Colonie Relays Saturday with a score of 131. The Guilderland boys came in sixth with 59 points.

The Guilderland softball team doesn’t quit when falling behind; the girls play hard till the last at bat. At home on Friday, the Dutch trailed against Saratoga, 3-0, all game long, but then scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie.

Christine Myers of Altamont, a sophomore at Saint Rose, hopes to qualify for the NCAA Division II national championship.

The Voorheesville lacrosse team fought hard in a non-league matchup at Schenectady High School Tuesday but lost, 13 to 12, in overtime.
