GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary, is seeking nominations for its annual business awards and is looking for business nominees from Guilderland, Altamont, and Voorheesville.

VOORHEESVILLE — A 9-year-old Voorheesville Elementary School student has been collecting cans to help his aunt, who is battling cancer. He has collected around 10,000 returnable items over the course a month.

On April 8, kids of all ages came to the New Salem Fire Department for the annual Easter egg hunt with their families and a visit by the Easter Bunny.

Peter Blackman, owner of Altamont’s fine-dining restaurant, has made the fare and prices more accessible since it bought it in June. The eatery now has a new name as well.

A new shop in Star Plaza, Urban Tailor, is run by Euni Yang, wife of the pastor of McKownville United Methodist Church. Yang previously worked for 10 years as a tailor at Men’s Wearhouse, where one repeat customer who came to her for alterations was Bernie Sanders.

On Sunday, April 2, the Easter Bunny hopped on over to the Westmere Fire Department to visit the young kids as they had a pancake breakfast in Guilderland.

National Arbor Day is Friday, April 28, this year, and the Arbor Day Foundation is making it easy for anyone to celebrate the annual tree-planting holiday.

An assisted-living facility on Gipp Road has reopened with a new name — Westhaven — and under new management.
