Playing with high intensity for the entire game, the Storm — made up of players from five schools: Guilderland, Mohonasen, Scotia-Glenville, Voorheesville, and Schalmont — beat the Queensbury Spartans, 3 to 2, Friday night before Christmas break.

Slow start, no problem for the Guilderland girls’ varsity basketball team on Tuesday morning at Amsterdam High School against Gloversville in the Amsterdam Holiday College Showcase; the Dutch beat the Dragons, 58 to 47.

WESTERLO — Shalyla Lyons of Westerlo, who graduated from Berne-Knox-Westerlo in June and was a standout athlete in high school, has set a record for Stonehill College.

GUILDERLAND — All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2017 Knights of Columbus Jason Brown Memorial Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, with a makeup date of Jan. 14.

Running fast and flying high, the Guilderland boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams took to the track on Sunday morning, Dec. 18, at Union College in a league meet against seven other schools.

On Friday evening, Dec. 16, Berne-Knox-Westerlo hosted Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons at home, holding their own for the first half but then losing, 81 to 58.

After a slow start, the Bulldogs of Berne-Knox-Westerlo girls’ basketball team led the rest of the way, even after two false fire-alarm interruptions, in a victory Friday, Dec 9, over the Schoharie Indians.

Showing power in the water, the Guilderville boys’ swim team faced Shaker on Tuesday afternoon, Dec 13, at Shaker High School but came up short in a 96-to-87 loss.

The pins never had a chance against the bowlers from Guilderland, Dec 6; Voorheesville, Dec 5; and Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Dec. 2, this week.

Opening up the season undefeated, 4-0, the Voorheesville Blackbirds boys’ basketball team showed its strength on Tuesday evening at home against Cobleskill-Richmondville.

There was history and resurgence during the fall sports season for Voorheesville, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, and Guilderland.
