The parades through Voorheesville, Berne, and Knox Monday honored the lives of local men who died at war, featuring a large number of surviving veterans to uphold the ceremony.

The Independent Living Center of the Hudson Valley announced its new workshop series, “Creators of Beauty: Hand Painted Quilt Squares.”  Under the guidance of Jeannie Thomma, a local artist, the three-week series will provide people with disabilities the opportunity to create felt panels which will be sewn into a community quilt.

NEW SCOTLAND — A year after a private fundraising campaign was launched to raise $1 million for a Thacher Park Center, more than half the goal has been reached, according to the Open Space Institute.

ALTAMONT— A local business has taken on what many larger companies have yet to do: clean a house and be good to the environment.

Students from Berne-Knox-Westerlo and their parents went to Thacher Park to take photos before their prom at the Albany Country Club.

On Saturday  May 7, two local World War II veterans took a Leatherstocking Honor Flight to Washington D.C with an escort to Albany International Airport by the American Legion Riders in Altamont.

New Scotland held its annual spring clean up on May 6.

ALTAMONT — Zachary Connolly, 16, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on April 30.

“He’s very driven and motivated,” said his mother, Megan Connolly.

Zachary Connolly created a “reflecting garden” behind St. John’s Lutheran Church in Altamont.

Voorheesville Elementary presents Lion King, Jr. at the Performance Arts Center at Clayton A. Bouton High School in Voorheesville.

St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Avenue in Altamont has an informal Sunday worship service at 8:30 a.m. and a traditional service at 11 a.m., on Sunday, Feb. 21.

Sunday school starts at 9:45 a.m.

April started with a snow day, the first one all winter.  Who would have guessed the biggest snowfall of the season would come on April 4!  Nonetheless, the 3- and 4-year-olds made some very impressive robins for our all-seasons tree and to hang in the school’s entryway

GUILDERLAND — Along with spring comes Guilderhaven’s annual garage sale held at 108 Halfmoon Dr. in Altamont on Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The new director of the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce has experience developing the business of both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
