ALTAMONT — Zachary Connolly, 16, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on April 30.

“He’s very driven and motivated,” said his mother, Megan Connolly.

Zachary Connolly created a “reflecting garden” behind St. John’s Lutheran Church in Altamont.

Connolly supervised area Scouts, who built a bench, used bricks to define a garden area, and planted flowers in the meditation space.

Connolly’s completed project was then passed on to local Cub Scouts, who meet at St. John’s, to care for and maintain the garden.

Connolly’s father, Assistant Scoutmaster Kevin Connolly, has been involved with Zachary and local scouting for eight years. Zachary Connolly has been in scouting for 11 years.

Connolly is a swim instructor in the Voorheesville Learn to Swim program; a Guilderville swim team member; a member of the National Honor Society; and a junior at Guilderland High School. He plans to pursue a degree in food science.

His grandparents are Ken and Diane Connolly, of Voorheesville, and the late Harry and Dorothy Armstrong, of Altamont.
