The American Red Cross Blood Services is holding these local drives in December:

— On Saturday, Dec. 7, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Masonic Lodge 85 in the dining room, 421 Kenwood Ave., Delmar;

Hunting is permitted in limited areas at John Boyd Thacher State Park.

Park maps showing defined hunting areas at Thacher and other state parks are available on the State Parks webpage, www.nysparks.com, or by contacting the appropriate park office.

GUILDERLAND — The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York launched its 29th Annual Holiday Hunger Appeal on Nov. 20 at Crossgates Mall. It will continue through Dec. 29.

Victory Christian Church of Albany is providing Thanksgiving baskets to people in need in the Albany or Schenectady areas.

Those who want a basket may call 434-6100 — Albany area residents are to call on Sunday, and Schenectady area residents on Tuesday.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church invites the public to services during the five weeks of December — Sunday morning worship and Wednesday evening Advent Services as Pastor Mark Mueller presents a sermon series titled “Love Finds a Voice in Bethlehem.”

Van Horn said it is different than some of the bigger box stores because it has more of a family atmosphere, and the employees often get to know the customers and their needs.

GUILDERLAND — Local restaurateur Sam Pontillo has settled in as general manager of the Blu Stone Bistro in Loudonville.

These local girls are among 46 Cadettes, in sixth through eighth grades, to have earned their Silver Awards in 2013. Involving more than 50 hours of work per girl, the Take Action project for the Girl Scout Silver Award is aimed at making the local neighborhood or community better.

The worship schedule at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Ave., in Altamont on Sunday, Nov. 17, is as follows:

— 8:30 a.m., informal worship with special guest Deacon Don Bunk. He will lead a discussion on the Lord’s Prayer;

Canal Street Station Railroad Museum Village, on Route 20 in Duanesburg, will host its fourth annual Christmas “Holiday Train Express” on Saturday, Nov. 23, from noon until 6 p.m. 

GUILDERLAND — Oops! The town of Guilderland’s Shredding Day took place on Nov. 3.

GUILDERLAND — Victoria’s Secret, the largest American retailer of lingerie, has remodeled its shop at Crossgates Mall, which is now open on the upper level, across from Express.

Kelly Ryan of Stillwater is the new office coordinator for Sargent and Blais.

She comes to the company with a long hospitality background.  Prior to S & B Staffing, Ryan worked for the Albany Marriott as an accounting specialist and a front-desk associate. 

The not-for-profit Arbor Day Foundation offers a variety of things for people to purchase as Christmas gifts.

Give-A-Tree cards from the Arbor Day Foundation can be purchased individually and with customized text.

ALTAMONT — Boys in Scout Troop 264 of Altamont will be picking up food donations for the annual food drive this Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m.
