NEW SCOTLAND — “Riot in Greenbush — the Anti-Rent War Renewed” is the name of the program that Jill Knapp will present at the New Scotland Historical Association meeting on Sunday, March 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wyman Osterhout Community Center, off of Route 85 in New Salem.

NEW SCOTLAND — Christopher White will present a program on the devastating impact of World War I on the Capital District’s German-American community.

He’ll speak at the New Scotland Historical Association by meeting on on Sunday, Feb. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Wyman Osterhout Community Center, off of Route 85 in New Salem.

NEW SCOTLAND — The rocks of Thacher Park record the history of Earth from the deep geologic past to recent times.  Modern and ancient earthquakes, ancient seas, and today’s retreat of the Indian Ladder cliffs can be “read” from the rock layers.

NEW SCOTLAND — On Sunday, July 17, at noon, Indian Ladder Farms will be unveiling an historical marker commemorating the farm founded in 1916 by Peter Ten Eyck, a former state commissioner of agriculture and a United States Congressman. The farm and apple orchard is now operated by the fourth generation of Ten Eycks.

NEW SCOTLAND — “The Battle of the Normanskill through African-American Eyes” will be presented by Aaron Mair, for the Nov. 1 program of the New Scotland Historical Association, from 2 to 4 p.m.

NEW SCOTLAND — Shakers stressed aspects of community and unity; however, individuals that made up these villages had personalities, idiosyncrasies, and life experiences that made up dynamics within each Shaker family and sometimes led to surprising interactions, close friendships, or even divisions within the community.

NEW SCOTLAND — The New Scotland Historical Association will be accepting suggestions and nominations of historical sites within the town that may be worthy of a historical marker. 

NEW SCOTLAND — The Anti-Rent Rebellion in New York State will be portrayed in song and stories by local musicians in period costumes.

The program will be held at Old Songs Community Center, 37 South Main Street in Voorheesville on Tuesday, June 2, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. 

NEW SCOTLAND — The Collar Laundry Union of Troy, organized in early 1864 by Kate Mullany, a 19-year-old Irish immigrant, was to become the nation’s first truly all-women labor union.
