GUILDERLAND — With Thanksgiving on the horizon, the kindergartners in Amy McFarren’s class told each other what they were thankful for.

Five-year-old Dylon Conboy told his classmates, “I’m thankful my Daddy donated platelets to kids that need them.”

Dylon knows about illness and about generosity.

"Chuck has the honest face and innocent look," said Senior Investigator Thomas Funk of his colleague, Charles Tanner III. "I’m a bigger guy — more intimidating.” The two work well together, and Funk was pleased that Tanner was recently recognized with an award from the district attorney.

A Guilderland volunteer scrounges, sews, and collects from generous locals to benefit the Hilltown Community Resource Center.

As Thanksgiving approaches, the girls made sure they didn't have a turkey of a game and came out firing on all cylinders.

The Guilderland girls' basketball team is ready to show Section 2 what it can do in the 2013-14 season with enhanced chemistry and talent.

We’ve all seen them, two elderly people sitting silently across each other in the restaurant or diner, staring past each other in a dull deadening silence.

How long have they been married? A long time.

Was it always like this? No.

The Guilderland Senior Services is offering the following activities the week of   Dec. 2. Call the senior office at 356-1980, ext. 1048 for any questions or information.

The American Red Cross Blood Services is holding these local drives in December:

— On Saturday, Dec. 7, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Masonic Lodge 85 in the dining room, 421 Kenwood Ave., Delmar;

We were gathered with some friends for an impromptu buffet. Every family brought a dish to share and chipped in a couple of dollars for a large delicious spiral cut ham. Everyone knew even before the dinner that the meal would be excellent. Joe was the one responsible for procuring the meat for the thrown together feast.

There was a time, not too long ago, when we could tell some of the days of the week just by walking down the street. Monday was washday and lines would be filled with the laundry, letting the sun and wind freshen and dry the clothes.  Sounds easy but if laundry is not taken care of regularly it will build up quickly.
