Harvesting hope along with asparagus, Mira DelSignore, a Farnsworth Middle School seventh-grader, has received funding from Katie’s Krop for her school’s organic garden, which donates its harvest to the Regional Food Bank. She was one of 31, out of 170 applicants, to receive funds from the not-for-profit founded by Katie Stagliano who, at the age of 9, donated a 40-pound cabbage to a soup kitchen where it fed 275 people, inspiring her to do more. DelSignore will get a $400 gift certificate to purchase seeds, plants, and tools for the garden and also get a camera to record events and progress at the garden.

Spring planting: Carolyn Becker and her daughter, Megan, a sixth-grader at Farnsworth Middle School plant onions in the school’s organic garden on Saturday as part of a cleanup event on Saturday. The garden contributes produce to the Regional Food Bank. Farnsworth student Mira DelSignore, with the help of teacher Alan Fiero, recently won a grant to further the garden work.
