In an evening filled with celebration and excitement, the residents of the Omni Senior Living Community enjoyed a dinner sponsored by Community Caregivers, on Saturday, March 30.

On Tuesday morning, One Tree Love preschool took a visit down to the Yarn Shop in Altamont to learn about where and how yarn is made.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce annually honors local businesses and volunteers who show exemplary qualities in five categories. Nominees for this year’s awards need to be submitted to the chamber by April 19.

Cold weather spawned hot competition last Thursday as Guilderland, 3-0 on the season, beat the Warriors at Averill Park, 7 to 2.

Getting off on the right foot: Both the Guilderland girls and Voorheesville boys won lacrosse games this week. The Dutch faced Columbia at home on Tuesday afternoon and won a barn burner, 14-to-12, while the Blackbirds, also at home, on Monday easily beat Cambridge, 11 to 6.

GUILDERLAND — Developer Tim Cassidy of Senior Consulting LLC has received approval for Pine Bush Senior Living, to be built at 22-24 New Karner Road, near Route 20. After receiving approval, he went back to the town with some amendments to the site plan that were approved four or five months ago, he said.

Ken Harris, executive director of the Albany Guardian Society — a not-for-profit organization that seeks to improve the lives of senior citizens and their families and caregivers — recently called the explosion of proposed senior-housing projects in Guilderland “by far the biggest growth of any community in the Capital District.”

Stewart’s is moving forward in its attempt to build a new store at its current site at 1001 Altamont Blvd. The company will be before the Altamont Zoning Board of Appeals on April 9, seeking variances to construct the new shop.

At its monthly meeting, the Altamont Village Board voted, 3 to 2, to not hold a public hearing for the rezone of 120 Park Street.

“Without a weapon, you cannot recklessly endanger someone,” defense attorney Terence Kindlon told the five justices of the Appellate Division of the Third Judicial District on Thursday.
